Headbanging
 
[englisch, 'hedbæȖɪȖ; wörtlich »mit dem Kopf schlagen«], beschreibt das vor allem bei Akteuren und Fans des Heavy-Metal-Rock verbreitete heftige Schütteln der langgewachsenen Kopfbehaarung im Rhythmus der Musik. Headbanger ist folglich die bisweilen geringschätzig gemeinte Bezeichnung für einen Heavy-Metal-Fan.

Head|ban|ging ['hɛdbɛŋɪŋ], das; -s [zu engl. headbanger = Verrückter, eigtl. jmd., der seinen Kopf ruckartig bewegt]: heftiges rhythmisches Nach-vorne-Schleudern des Kopfes als eine Art Tanzbewegung beim Hard Rock: Drinnen wurde der Kicker Lars Ricken beim H. beobachtet (Woche 19. 12. 97, 46); Im Hof in der Neuen Mauerstraße brachten krachender Hardrock und Heavy Metal das Publikum zum Rasen. Kein obszöner Text, kein Gitarren-Riff, das nicht mit heftigem H. begleitet wurde (FNP 4. 9. 95, 13).
